Andrew Johnson, art director
Andrew has been a graphic designer, freelance and employed, since 1992. He was art director for Blueprint from 1995 to 2000, and among his other clients were the Almeida Theatre, Aspen Publishing, the Barbican Centre, the Institute for Contemporary Arts, Methuen Publishing, the National Film Theatre, Operafactory, the Royal College of Art, the South Bank Centre and the Young Vic Theatre Company. In recent years, he has designed many new contract magazines and has redesigned titles including Art Review, Saab Magazine and V&A Magazine. He has a bachelor’s degree from Brighton Polytechnic and an MA in graphic design and art direction from the Royal College of Art.

 

Charlie Watson, editorial director
Charlie worked as a freelance writer and editor from 1997 to 2004, writing for magazines, websites, advertising and PR agencies. He is also the author of two books: Explorers, a historical atlas for children, and Seahenge: an Archaeological Conundrum, a book onthe Bronze Age timber circle controversially excavated in Norfolk in 1999. In a previous life, Charlie worked in IT for Lloyds Bank and for the consultancy James Martin Associates, where his clients included American Express, Avis Europe, Barclaycard and Kleinwort Benson Investment Banking. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and an MA in creative writing from the University of East Anglia.

 

Anthony Denny, publishing director
Anthony has worked in publishing since 2000 and in his previous job was account director for the Saab Automobile magazine business, which involved four titles, including a principal customer title, Saab Magazine, produced in up to 20 language editions. Anthony’s work includes strategic consultancy, planning, budgeting, client liaison and overall management of projects, production and distribution. In this role he draws on the skills he developed during 16 years as an account director and copywriter in the London advertising industry, where he worked for agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, Bates UK, and Court, Burkitt & Company.

 

Mike Jefferies , art editor
Mike started at Norwich Art School (now NUCA) in 2003, where he studied illustration, photography, web design and graphic design, specialising in design for publishing. In 2006, following work experience at The Sunday Times, he was offered a placement at East Publishing, where he redesigned TCTimes, the magazine of the Teenage Cancer Trust. On graduating with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design in 2007, he was presented with an International Society of Typographic Designers award by Freda Sack for his graduate exhibition work. Now, when he isn't being art editor at East Publishing, he also manages free-lance web and print projects of his own.

 

Bernie Sheehan, editor
Bernie began her career in the press office of Weidenfeld & Nicolson, and worked in book and magazine publishing for many years in London and later in Norwich in editorial, publicity and marketing roles. She also worked briefly in facilities administration at BBC East. From 2000–2007 she was a freelance writer and editor, with clients including Marks & Spencer, the National Trust, RWE npower, Johnson & Johnson and PPC Worldwide. She joined East Publishing as an editor in 2008. She has a degree in English & Film Studies and a diploma in creative writing from the University of East Anglia.


Charlotte Stratta, publishing manager
Charlotte came to Norwich in 2000 to study at the University of East Anglia, graduating in 2003 with a BA (Hons) in music and a performance diploma from the London College of Music. Post-university, she worked in arts and music events, which led to her being offered the role of projects officer for the Norfolk & Norwich Festival. She went on to work on events and marketing for Contemporary Art Norwich (CAN07), Norwich City Council and the European partnership project Spatial Metro. She joined East Publishing in 2009, managing print and web projects, supplier/client relationships, marketing and distribution.
